German iron age (400-800 AD).
Gold bracteate (bracteate = thin slice) from Darum in Ribe County.
The original is in the National Museum. Bracteates unilaterally
embossed pendants of gold. The earliest were carried out by
Norsemen as imitations of Roman medallions,
but over time there emerged an independent Germanic
style with motifs from, among others Norse mythology.
