Brooch originally made of a copper-alloy bronze which has been gilded. Found in a churchyard in Pitney, Somerset, England. The motive is called Urnæs-style. This word originates from the church at Urnæs, Norway which is known for its woodcarvings. The motive shows a fantasy animal struggling with snakes, a symbol of Christianity´s fight against heathenism.
