Viking Age (800-1050 AD).
Silver rings from the Viking Age formed into spirals and linked together in chains, initially probably meant to be jewelry, were found in Denmark at the farmhouse Duesminde by Maribo and further found in the Baltic regions Øland and Gotland, and in Latvia. They have been used as means of payment and were minted into exact weights of silver, the smallest equaling 24,5 grams. During the Viking Age these currency-rings, crafted into pieces of art and value, were worn by men and women as a token of their wealth.
